Lebanese Clothing Since Lebanon is a highly westernized society, the clothing of the Lebanese does not differ all that much from what we see on the streets of Canada! Besides the fact that the Lebanese dress a little more modestly, with less revealing clothing, the companies that exist in North America are the thriving clothing companies there as well. Lebanon is highly westernized due to its involvement with fashion media. They are the main broadcasters of the Middle East, and often broadcast about fashion in western countries, therefore... The "in" fashion is whatever is in here!!! Not to say that the Lebanese do not affect the fashion here... because they do. For example, you may now see people wearing keffyeih scarves such as these ones:
These originated in the Middle East, and now have come overseas to North America.
Pre-Modern Clothing
The pre-modern clothing of the Lebanese people was very different than what is worn now. Both men and women used to wear more gowns and less denim. This gown is called a Thobe, both men and women wear it. It is usually white, and made of cotton, it makes the sun-scorching heat a lot more bearable; as the cotton breathes well, the material is light, the white reflects the sun, and the fact that it is a dress keeps your legs cool. Also, it has a hoodie to keep your head shaded from the sun if the heat is too much. Along with the Thobe, sandals are usually worn to keep your feet cool.
